Introduction In the ruins of North America, rose Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by thirteen outlying districts. Everything was well and peaceful.
Then came the Dark Days and the districts went to war with the Capitol. In the end, the districts were forced to surrender when the thirteenth district was obliterated. The Hunger Games As a reminder of Dark Days, the Capitol created the Hunger Games. Each year, every district gives up two children between the ages of 12-18 to be thrown in to a vast outdoors arena. Some districts think it's an honor and are eager to volunteer while others think of it as a death sentence and mourn for their loss.
To show that the Capitol is merciful, they allow there to be one victor, one survivor, but in order to become one you must fight to stay alive. A Quarter Quell Every twenty-five years, the annual Hunger Games is called a Quarter Quell. For that year the Capitol adds a special twist to the games that makes it even more challenging for the tributes and entertaining to the Capitol residents.
