The Reaping Katniss stood frozen in her spot as Effie Trinket walked over to the bowl full tribute names for the girls. Effie Trinket dug her hand into the bowl, pulled out a slip of paper, and read it aloud. "Primrose Everdeen!" Katniss rushed towards her sister and volunteered to take her place in the Hunger Games.
Effie Trinket calls out the boy tribute and together Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark walk into the Justice Building, to say their good byes and prepare for the Capitol. |

The Interview - with Ceasar Flickerman Katniss does okay during her interview, but Peeta's the one who holds the crowd. He gets them laughing the moment he opens his mouth.
"Tell me, do I smell like roses?" Peeta asks Ceasar Flickerman and they begin to to sniff each other while the crowd laughs. Then Ceasar asks about a girlfreind back home and Peeta shakes his head. "Handsome lad like you. There must be some special girl. Come on, what's her name?" Ceasar presses. "Well, there is this one girl. I've had a crush on her ever since I can remember. But I'm pretty sure she didn't know I was alive until the Reaping." Peeta replies. "She have another fellow?" asks Ceasar. "I don't know, but a lot of boys like her," Peeta says. "So, here's what you do. You win, you go home. She can't turn you down then, eh?" says Ceasar. "I don't think it's going to work out. Winning...won't help in my case." "Why ever not?" Ceasar asks, confused. "Because...because...she came here with me." |
In the Arena After running away from the wall of fire that nearly killed her, she runs into the Careers and finds a tree to climb. She sees Peeta and immediately feels betrayal. After the Careers realize it's hopeless to try to catch Katniss in her tree, Rue comes out of her hiding place and points out a tracker jacker nest about 15 feet above her. Katniss cuts loose a the branch where the nest is and it crashes own to the Careers' camp. The angry tracker jackers follow Careers who try to run away from them. Glimmer and the girl from District 4 don't make it to the lake, they end up dying after recieves a numerous amount of stings. Katniss takes Glimmer's bow and arrows and takes off, but Katniss had recieved some stings from the tracker jackers and passes out.
Rue and Katniss become allies and fully trust each other with their lives. They plan to blow up the supplies and successful fulfill their plan. But Rue didn't make it back to their rondezvous spot. Katniss realizes that something went wrong and finds her trapped in a net just as a spear hits her in the stomach...
Katniss kills the boy with the spear and takes Rue in her arms. She gently sing her to sleep, to death, then decorates her body and hair with flowers. She says one final good-bye and walks away without turning back. |
Claudius Templesmith makes an announcement that two tributes from the same district can team up and that if they're the last two alive they can both return home.
Katniss searches for Peeta and finds him camouflaged in the mud by the river with a severe injury on his leg. Katniss nurses Peeta back to health, but knows that if the games don't end soon then Peeta will die. Claudius Templesmith tells the tributes that there will be a feast that includes a vital ingredient to your survival in a bag with your district number on it. Katniss manages to retrieve the bag and makes it back safely into the cave. She injected the hypodermic needle into Peeta's arm, getting rid of his infection. Cato killed Thresh and Peeta killed Foxface. Now Cato, Katniss, and Peeta are directed toward the lake where the finale will be shown. Cato runs out of the forest chased by muttations. Katniss, Peeta, and Cato all climb the Cornicopia where they're out of their reach.
Cato recovers from the shock of it all and puts Peeta in a headlock, threatening to kill him. Katniss shoots and arrow at his hand and Peeta pushes him down towards the mutts. Katniss takes Cato out with her last arrow and the two of them head toward the lake. There Claudius tells them that only one can win. Katniss holds out the berries and they try to poison themselves. But before they get the chance, Claudius shouts out, "Stop! Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present the victors of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark! Igive you - the tributes of District 12!" |
The Victors "The games have just begun." Katniss Everdeen learns that her trick with the berries has caused mayhem. Everyone believes that her act was a spark that will begin a rebellion and bring down Panem. Now she must show the world that she's nothing, but a clueless girl that couldn't bare to be without the one she "loved".
Katniss makes it through the interview, but the question is... did it work? She rides the train back with Peeta thinking that everything went fine, that they'll go home and live in harmony. Only...they won't. Peeta finds out that Katniss hasn't been entirely truthful about the way she feels towards him, that not all of it was real, that she didn't actually love him. She knows she has feelings for him, but she doesn't know how to sort them yet. |
