Each year one boy and one girl between the ages 12-18 from each of the 12 districts of Panem are thrown into an arena and forced to fight to the death. The last tribute alive is crowned victor for that year and becomes a mentor for the future tributes.
|
Every year tributes from districts 1, 2, and 4 team up during the games, thinking that it's the best strategy for their survival.
But before they are even eligible to become a tribute, they spend their time training for the honor of being picked as tribute. By the time they're 18 -- the last year of being able to be a tribute -- they are ready to kill and even volunteer for it. |

Before the tributes are sent off to the arena they attend the Opening Ceremonies, also known as the tribute parade. The tributes are dressed by their stylists and prep teams then ride in a chariot through the Capitol. The audience (residents of the Capitol) watch to see who they should bet on for this year's Hunger Games.

The tributes get three days to train in the Training Center and pick up some good tips and skills for the arena. They travel from station to station learning about snares, knots, archery, swordsmanship, spears, and other lessons about survival.
After their time in the Training Center, the tributes have a pirvate session with the Gamemakers to show off their skills and show the sponsors they are worth their money. |

After the Opening Ceremonies and the training, the tributes have an interview with Ceasar Flickerman, a man who is virtually unchanged and has been hosting the interviews for over 40 years. This is the time where the tributes try to win over sponsors with their wit, humor, personality, or mystery.
